Hi, I'm Ryan.

I’m the author of Being is Greater than Doing, speaker, coach, and blogger on a mission to help discontent men and women live intentionally and fully through small but impactful decisions. On this blog, I share my reflections on personal growth, relationships, and productivity.

Whether you’re a stay at home parent seeking more fulfillment in your life, a young professional thinking of a career shift, or someone who’s achieved everything they set out on and now are wondering “is that it?” I want to help. I want to help you find a life that’s integrated with your deepest values and intentional towards your most biggest goals.

I believe that our best life is not a productive life or even a balanced life, but a full life an integrated and intentional life. This full life involves:

  • Completion of Self – Being our most authentic self and becoming our best self
  • Connection with Others – Deepening our compassion for and connection with others
  • Calling in Life – Finding purpose and living productively in every season

How I Will Add Value To You

Working in the helping profession for the last 10 years, I have learned that regardless of one’s religion, faith, or beliefs, every human has the desire to live well and experience more life.

We all need reminders of our deepest values, encouragement to live them out when times get hard and practical advice on pivoting when life happens.

My writing and work thus focus on…

  • Discovering and embracing your true self
  • How to understand and empathize with those you find difficult
  • Challenging ingrained beliefs and mindsets that do not serve us and set us up for success
  • How to make wise and thoughtful decisions
  • How to live meaningfully and make the most out of life and of everyday

Using a combination of the latest thoughts and research on personal, social, and leadership development, along with the Enneagram framework of personality, I give personalized, non-cookiecutter advice that won’t tell you to have to quit your job and start your own business or travel the world to eat, pray, and love (unless that’s what you want to do).

I believe most of us know where we want to go, we just all need a little direction on getting there and encouragement to keep going.

Not Another Life Coach

If you’re like me, you’re like skepetical about who I am, good, you should be! There are way too many people out there claiming to be mentors, coaches, and guides to a better life without really any evidence or experience. So let’s first get the resume stuff out of the way.

I have a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia, a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Regent College, and a Doctor of Ministry in Leadership and Spiritual Formation from Portland Seminary. And for the last 10 years I’ve served as a pastor at a church in Vancouver, Canada helping people learn to love God (duh), and love themselves (that might have surprised you), and love others (unfortunately, that may surprise you too). I’m a certified Enneagram Coach and use it extensively in all my work as I believe the best help is always personalized and non-judgmental help.

My favorite thing to do on the weekends would be a spin class or bike ride, followed by a big plate of chicken and waffles. I lift weights 5-6 weeks, currently using Juggernaut.AI, and non-legalistically count my calories with My Fitness Pal. My dance party playlist includes Destiny’s Child, Nelly, Rhianna, Lady Gaga, JaRule, and most beloved boy and girl-bands from the 90s.

I am grateful to live and work on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples–Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.
